Origins
In 1997 a Malawian pastor, Rev. Singogo, walked six hours across the border into Zambia to a village where he had friends. Pastor Singogo preached to the community and several people were converted. A Free Methodist church was organized. Jason Haonga, one of the converts, attended Bible school classes and will soon take on the church responsibilities. There are approximately 60 Free Methodist members in that area of Zambia. The church is located in the northeast corner of the country near the Malawi, Zambia, and Tanzania borders. Another group was started near Ndola by Pastor Francois Murekezi, a Rwandan refugee. This group is now under the direction of the South Africa General Conference, which has officially registered the FMC in Zambia. Learn more about Zambia
