Origins
The Independent Methodist Church of Strasbourg, France, became aware of the Free Methodist Church through Canada’s FM French-language Web site. After making contact with Canadian Bishop Keith Elford and meeting with Jerry Coleman in the spring of 2002, the church asked to affiliate. The affiliation was approved by Free Methodist World Missions in the spring of 2004. In addition, a group of Haitian immigrants in Cergy (just outside of Paris) have established a small Free Methodist congregation there. Contact has been made between the Strasbourg and Paris groups, with the hope of establishing a mutually supportive network of churches within the country. Present Ministries
Missionaries Marvin and Lisa Klein encourage the small group of believers in the Strasbourg church who have a passion for seeing the country of France reawakened to its spiritual heritage. Congregants are involved in discipleship and biblical education for adults. The Haitian church has a deep desire to see others come to Christ and are looking for ways they can have an effective witness in their communities. Many of the immigrants were members of the FMC in Haiti before coming to France. They hope to reach more Haitians in the area.
