As the so-called capital of the Balkans, Thessaloniki is a bustling city of over 1 million. It has become the temporary home for over 100,000 legal, and illegal, immigrants over the past 10 years. Housing is a challenge, and renting to foreigners sometimes impossible. Many come just to find work and to send money back to their families in one of the poor Balkan countries. Many mothers leave their families to seek work. Many youth forsake the familiar to start a new life. Many fathers have given up everything for a chance for some dignity, and a few euros. The Balkan Ministry Center provides temporary housing and Christian love for these misplaced people.
