Origins

The Free Methodist Church was invited by the Hungarian Evangelical Fellowship (HEF) to supply public schools with English teachers. The first short-term missionary teacher went in 1990. Career missionaries arrived in Hungary in 1995.

Present Ministries

Two fellowships have been established in Hungary - one in Gyor and the other in Budapest. The Gyor fellowship has recently begun to meet in home groups. The Budapest fellowship has a leadership team comprised of missionaries Larry and Katie Winckles and Jan Coleman, as well as Hungarian leaders Toth Julia and Izsak Norbert. One means of service and outreach into the community is through English classes and clubs that are held on the premises of a governmental social service agency. Recovery classes for people struggling with dependencies of any kind have recently been established, using the Celebrate Recovery! materials. Already these classes are gaining a good reputation in the city.

Outreach

The church in Hungary has regular contact with the Oaza Children's Homes and the Emanuel Christian Center in Arad, Romania, and supports the work taking place there.
