Origins
A revival in Los Angeles, California, in 1917 sparked the movement for Free Methodists to focus ministry in Mexico. As Mexican churches were raised up in California, workers became burdened for the unevangelized in Mexico. Mexican law forbade foreign missionaries to serve as pastors in Mexico, so Gonzalo Cisneros, a Mexican-American, was authorized by Free Methodist World Missions to return to his home town in Sonora to serve as missionary-pastor. In 1931 the Mexican Provisional Conference, embracing churches in both California and Mexico, was organized in Chino, California. Present Ministries
Churches in Baja California make up the Northwest Mexico Provisional Annual Conference. Churches of the Mexican Annual Conference extend south from the borders of Texas and Arizona to the central states of the country. The newest area of work, the Central Mexico Mission District, is in central and southern Mexico. Ministry in Mexico City, the largest city in the Americas, became a thrust of that mission district in 1995. New Life Ministries (Endicott NY) is a partner church with the work in this area. Several hundred VISA workers, including short-term construction/evangelism teams, assist in the work each year throughout Mexico. Outreach
The Mexican church has helped send and support a church planter in the Central Mexico Mission District. A pastor from Baja California has assisted the work in Costa Rica. The Mexican Conference has sent work and ministry teams to Argentina and Panama, as well as many places within the Republic. Opportunities to support Mexico ministries Learn more about Mexico
