Free Methodists have a rich legacy of those who have devoted years of faithful service in world missions. These individuals have made great sacrifices in terms of comfort and financial security to follow God’s call. We believe it honors God to express gratitude to these faithful servants in their retirement years. For that reason, Free Methodist World Missions invites you to participate in the Ernest and Phebe Ward Society to offer financial support to retired missionaries, especially those who served before a world missions pension plan existed. Basics of the Ernest and Phebe Ward Society
Participants include those who contribute to the Retired Missionary Benefit Fund. (All donations are welcome; Founding Members are those giving $1,000 or more.) Beneficiaries of the fund include missionaries who began service prior to the existence of a world missions pension plan. They receive an annual income supplement and medical reimbursement to supplement costs not covered through their medical insurance plan. Retired missionaries with 30 or more years of service are eligible to receive the medical reimbursement described above. Although these retired missionaries have received this benefit for many years, the Free Methodist World Missions designated funding plan can no longer provide these funds from general undesignated giving. Therefore, Free Methodist World Missions has created the Ernest and Phebe Ward Society for this specific purpose.
