Eduardo and Cindi Angelo - Portugal

Three churches are currently meeting in Portugal. Eduardo and Cindi Angelo, a husband and wife team from Brazil, and Cidá Matos, also from Brazil, have been assisting with these ministries since 1999. Eduardo is the pastor of the Tapada das Mercês-Sitra Church, while Cindi pastors the Charneca de Caparica church. Cidá pastors the church in Santa Marta do Pinhal, an African majority church.

The Free Methodist team’s ministry also involves leadership, evangelism, discipleship and leadership development. A variety of evangelism tools are used including drama, street evangelism, children’s ministries, and ministry to the poor. Through a partnership with the Food Bank Against Hunger, more than 60 families receive food each week. A school for leaders has been established to train and form church planters and pastors. The second class will graduate in December 2009.

The churches have seen tremendous convert growth in recent years. They regularly sponsor worship and missionary conferences that serve to build up the body of Christ.

The work has not been without challenges. Much of Portugal is resistant to the gospel. Idolatry, witchcraft and magic are the number one evidence of the paganism present in this nation. Yet Portugal, along with Spain, became an official FM missions district in 2004.
